Embracing Interpersonal Collaboration

post-doctoral-education-chiropracticMedical Education and the health system in general is slowly embracing increased interprofessional collaboration between healthcare providers of different backgrounds. The trend started slowly with specialized medical journals and has reached post-graduate level education in many states with the first two continuing education providers (CE) being jointly accredited by ACCME (Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education) in 2010. “Launched in 2009, Joint Accreditation for Interprofessional Continuing Education is a collaboration of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Chiropractic is also included in this process at the State University of New York at Buffalo, School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, where I am an Associate Adjunct Professor in the Family Practice Department.
